SUPERCHARGE ME
ok i know u guys are all about the turbos, im not worried about fuel efficiency or power loss, its a show truck. i would really like to get a oldschool supercharger for my 6.9idi. oldschool truck. so that being sed, anyblody got any input on what to use and or where to get it
thanks for any input that doesnt invalve trying to sell me on turbos. (i allready know there better, thats not the point here)

I actually have a supercharger mount to put a M112. I plan on running a turbo into the supercharger on my setup. There is a guy running an Eaton M90 over at OB but it is still a work in progress to get it goin. As far as power goes, they make decent power on a diesel. I have seen a few Hummers with the 6.5 diesel in it and it produces nice low end power. Iirc there is also a company that sells superchargers for the Chevy diesels too. I believe their name is Bullet Superchargers. Also check out CompD. There is a guy named Carl over there who has made some pretty cool setups for a multitude of Cummins engines. Also check out the diesel place there is a guy there who has experimented with a lot of different setups on his Duramax. His name is Mick and he is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. And lastly look up Empire Prochargers. They have setups for the Ford 6.0 and 7.3, Duramax, and Cummins. I know a few of the setups I mentioned are centrifugal superchargers but it'll give you an idea of supercharger performance on diesels and will help dispell the myth that they don't work. They provide extremely nice low end power and when coupled with a turbo provide a broad powerband which is a win-win in my opinion...

sounds like a fun project! as you know, the beauty of a SC is that you have boost at ALL speeds, not just after it revs up, with the downside being that it draws power off the engine instead of taking "waste" power from the exhaust. all things considered, i would love to have a supercharger in my rig - but as a DD work rig, i doubt i'll ever get around to it
on a related note, i had a thought awhile back that it might be relatively easy to set up an electric supercharger - basically a large vacuum motor with its exhaust blowing into your intake. cheap and easy to set up, but i have no clue if it would do enough to be worth thinking about. but whatever...
i look forward to seeing your progress!

Load sensitivity is far more important than "boost at all speeds"... That's just what a turbo does...
I don't know about you guys, but I have no lack of boost, its there when I need it, and not when I don't, and the best part of that is that I don't have a bunch of parasitic loss to go with it...
I believe the OP was talikng about a SC on a different level though, more for show, less for go... and in that case, just toss an 871 on there at 1:1, you'll have all the effect you need of putting a supercharger on a diesel, plus the bling...
