I have a 05 6.0 with 76,000 miles on it. When I bought it used it already had a turbo put into it. It makes a weird sound now when I let off the accelerator that sounds like my muffler dragging on the ground. I had it trip the maintenance wrench three times all I did was cycle the key and it went away, but one time it went to limp mode. Has anybody had any axpierience with this? The turbo makes the sound only after I'm doing an uphill boost and I let of! Thanks for any help!!!!!
Yeah sounds like vanes sticking from sitting. Since these trucks don't have blow off valves or waste gates it is the vanes that have to close to release excess pressure and if the vanes start sticking it will not close fast enough and cause the excess pressure find it's way out to release. Along with this you could be overboosting and cause engine damage. what is the highest boost you see on the stock boost gauge? It is about the only gauge worth a damn in factory format. The limp mode could be the computer strategy related to overboosting condition. I was told it would set the wrench light and set codes for it, get the codes read , Although I have to admit I have never heard of turbo fart described as a muffler dragging on the ground. So we are guessing without codes
