i have a 1997 f150 2wd and it has a 4.6 litre v8, it runs good but it seems to have no power when pulling a trailer anymore, it has 321,465 miles on it, original motor and transmission, it uses about a half aquart of oil every 2500 to 2800 miles between oil changes, the trailer i pull is just a small car trailer i have always pulled it with the truck, any ideas on what could be causing it to lose power
Jeff, now be truthfull, what is the small car trailer and loaded weight?
A half quart in 2800 miles is very good. Nothing to worry about.
At 321k + miles you got a lot for your money out of the truck.
Look to see if any codes are set first.
After that, if nothing shows, I would do a compresson check to see general engine health, with so many miles.
Bottom line you need to check a few things in order to see what the situation is.
The computer program is self learning for wear and age so could still run without setting code but run P*** poor at it's age.
Could even be plugged cats by now.
Good luck.
