new to this section...

Hey guys, my name's Josh and normally I frequent the 87-96 section...but Daisy, my 87 F150, has gotten to where she needs more work than I can complete in a day and she has been retired from daily driver duty...

Meet Ali! Bought her the other day, she's a 2004 F150 XL Heritage rcsb 4x2 with the 4.2 V6 and the auto with 3.55 gears. Only 71k miles and drives tighter than any Ford F-series from 97-up I've ever driven. One owner and clean as a whistle. I'm kinda worried about the 4.2 because of what I've heard but I'm just gonna keep an eye on it and keep up on maintenance. Coolant level especially, lol. Feels just as strong as my old Vortec 4.3 did despite people saying the 4.2 was such a boat anchor...anyhow, thoughts?

Welcome 460! Looks like a nice clean truck,I don't have a 4.2 but my wife's son just bought a 2000 F150 with one.
Other than head gaskets I haven't heard too much bad about them, any vehicle you buy these days has some kind of design problem.
Good luck with yours...I'm still burning lots of gas with my noisy 5.4, waiting for it to blow up but it keeps on going!

Thanks for the welcome vaper! Yea, the modular engines just seem to keep on keeping on...I hope this V6 lasts like they do...

My 02 4.2 has over 150,000 miles on it.
I change the oil every 5000 miles with Motorcraft oil and filter.

We have loaded 1600 pounds of steel on the truck on more than one
occasion.

This is the best truck I have owned so far.

Thanks Darren, can't ask for too much better of a recommendation than that! I'm slowly feeling better about the 4.2
