the shop is literally 5 min from my house.. It takes longer to go to autozone to pickup the tool and take it back. If they come on wed and the shop is open on fri after thanksgiving I will drop it off and pick up on way home. If the shop is closed for the thanksgiving weekend I will pick up tool and and do my self..

happy thanksgivings to all

Yours aren't even crusty. Those things will push right out of there. I'd say 30mins for all (4) because its your first time. Figuring out the right parts to use is the hardest part. There are a lot more parts in the kit that you don't use than parts you do use.

had a good day grossing $1,667.00 wish I couild do that very day . was a long for sure.. 80 buck is doable for sure.. NO dvr for me.. live aka TV or nothing.. commercials are time to pee... happy thanksgiving.

And if you took that approach, you'd have just enough time to either do it yourself, or drive down, drop off the parts, and then drive back home to watch the game.

But it is the holiday season, and there are plenty of things to do. And I can think of worse things to blow $80 on. Plus I don't know what the weather is like there or your working conditions. Enjoy your long weekend whichever route you choose.

I think I might get to swap a turbo on the nieces 6.0, but it should be in the 70's here and I've got a nice workshop to play in, plus a DVR for any football games that might come on.

You pee every 15 minutes? Maybe you ought to slow down on the beer!

OK OK OK.. I am requesting my Man Card back.. So i was going to take the knuckles to shop, got the ball joints today in mail and decided to check out auto zone and see if they had a ball joint tool I would get.

Traffic was a fricken beach so it took longer. I asked for the tool and he brought one that had only like 5 parts. I said do you have one for 4x4 and he when back and brought this one.

I took it home and got busy and got all four changed out in like 1.5 hrs.

The lower joints were a bear and i had to pound on them with hammer along the way.

One thing I did notice is the lower joint seem to be a bit longer as the snap ring was a bit below the opening.

ALso i had to switch the grease zirks as the upper one was packaged with 90 deg one which would not work so I put the straight one in upper and 90 in lower one.

here are some photos so enjoy.

Timely thread updates! My Spicer ball joints are shot after 30K miles. I've been hearing and feeling this rattling through the floorboards for a little while and suspected the Ball Joints are bad but didn't want to think so with such little mileage since when I replaced them. Jacked up a tire, pried up on the wheel/tire assembly leveraging a 2X4 on the ground and my big prybar up on the tire, and there it was. Up/down and side play especially on the DR side. Warranty requires I send the joints in and then if determined premature failure, they would be replaced. This doesn't work for me as the truck can't be down that long. So, I just ordered a set of XRF joints from American Undercar. I changed the joints 12/27/14 per my records and it looks like it will be very close to 3 years and 30k although probably more like 25k miles... Ugh.

I sure hope the XRF's are better!

XRF Joint are ordered as is an OTC press and Astro Dodge/Ford 4wd adapter kit. Last time I rented the tool, it was a bit of a cluster and if I end up needing to do this job every couple years, well, I want my own tools to do it. Good to help friends too.

I'll post a video of the play in my 30,000 mile worn out Spicer ball joints soon. Have a camping trip this weekend so wish me luch towing the 5th wheel!

Dynatrac. Yes, more money, but they really are do it once for life product. To me, I thought ball joints were a big job. 30k is like maintenance!

Went to install the Dynatracs and grooved joints were installed previously. I am screwed, so I guess I will have to go with another grooved joint like XRF. Ughhhh.....

That's disappointing that the Spicers only lasted 30k. Less than a year ago I put a set in my truck to fix a sticky set that was in it when I bought it. Guess we'll see how it goes...

I think they were starting to go at 20k and have been loose for 5k... Yeah, I'm very disappointed.

I'm equally disappointed in Spicer's warranty process. It entails removing them and sending them in for Spicer to decide if they'll warranty them. F that S. I'll never buy Spicer again nor Moog.... I really hope XRF work. They're sitting on the bench along with my new tools waiting.

My XRF are doing well so far, granted, only 10k miles but that's about half way to where the spicers lasted!
