93 E4OD problems??

93 E4OD problems??
Its always had a cel code for torque convertor lock up error and its starting to slip alot more than usual. I changed the fluid a month ago(only drive it on the weekends) and there was ALOT of aluminum shavings. After i changed it, it shifted really good. Now it slips pretty bad and when im coasting down a hill at about 60, put it in neutral and rev it up it lurches forward alittle. Ive been looking around for a 5speed but if it only needs a torque convertor then id rather do that, thanks guys

You will end up doing the whole tranny rebuild if it is over 100k miles..
E40d's are bad abuot this...
they are also expensive to rebuild.
had mine done 2 yrs ago.
works fine now but i think even at my buddy prices it was 1600.00$
and
went a couple of months after that chasing gremlins but works great now..

should have bought a complete one from one of the national companies who builds automatic towing transmissions.
would have been quicker.

My wifes cousin and I just rebuilt mine last year for slipping and torque converter problems. My hard part cost was 800-900 dollars just buying the parts. This included the shift position sensor update, new torque converter, shift kit, trans kit, new shift solenoid pack, and some pump modifications for better flow. If you have tghe money get the newer pump if not there are modifications a transmission guy can do to your pump to improve flow. The downside to the mods is it takes about 10 seconds to reach operating pressure on a cold start up.

I hear about everyone having these issues with the E4OD and I know they are an issue, but wow I must have got the one OK one. 192,000mi and no rebuild with no issues at all, except for every once and awhile it taking about 2 seconds after shifting into reverse for it to engage.

Theres some rubber piece in there that hardens and causes what your seeing. I'd have to research it but I believe that can be fixed just by removing the pan.

That would be great if pulling the pan to get to them would work.Mine is doing the same. Wait for it to go into gear.It's also slow if I get on it shifting from first to second.It fish tail the rear end a bit.It's the E40D also as far as I can tell.Alomst forgot to ask if they are easy to see and get to?

I have been cautious about posting back as I am not the transmission guy it is my wifes cousin. There was a solenoid pack that we upgraded to a neweer version, the shift position sensor was upgraded (Need to repin the electrical connector), and there was another piece that I can't remember the name that when pulled out he said something about the rubber was real hard and that was most likely the cause of my slow shift between reverse and drive. I'll keep looking and see what I can dig up.
