Yup, not cheap to buy a a mini starter... I ended up installing one on my 390 because they give more space/clearance to the header if you ever use em.... The stock starter was a bit to close for my tastes.... Keep overheating it and having to change it out.... Time consuming.... If your not running headers the stock unit should be fine... Unless you have some super high compression ratio, then????
Dang! Are they all that expensive? Cuz a stock one with lifetime warrenty is 50 bucks haha
You can find them a little cheaper, but not much, like with anything else you get what you pay for, the mini-starters from RobbMc have a good reputation.
several of my mud bogging buddies, myself included, use powermaster xs torque starters. they are about 250 bucks, but they work good. xs torque is spec'd for up to 18:1 compression engines. there are other models of powermaster starters with less torque that are cheaper also.
