What is the best way to change the color of a perferrated cardboard headliner? Will vinyl paint in an aersol can work? Will regular enamel paint in an aerosol can work?
Dont paint it!! I went and bought some pleather at the local cloth shop for 6 bucks and a can of spray adhesive 6 bucks too. Just take the cardboard down....lay the pleather out so it can strech out.. spray the card board apply the pleather...end result is a nice headliner...also more durable than it was before and took maybe 30 minutes.
paint sound like a cheap lookin answer. Im completely happy with mine it is now black leather...
I have a 66 F250. If I cover the headliner with the same material as the seat, should i try to wrap the edges on the back "angled" panel, or is that asking for a lumpy mess? I do like this idea of covering the panels.
Man you used the search function like crazy!!! Good for you!!! 10 year old thread!!! LOL Not being a a$$ others should use the search function more often.
I'd say yes you want to wrap the material around the panel. You'll just have to cut some "V" shaped reliefs in the fabric to get it to lay flat on the backside of the panel.
Haha, ya i guess that was an old post. sheeez. i guess these headliners aint getting any younger either. I got mine all pieced together and some areas backed with peg board, so the cover idea is a a good solution. Thanks! Will Super 77 hold it you think? Or is there another glue adhesive that will stick to the painted side of this headliner board?
Most people use some sort of industrial type glue more than just the spray stuff you get from Wal-Mart. One product I've seen suggested is DAP weldwood contact cement.
