radiator woes

well Im trying to get my old,new ,truck road worthy so today I was changing the hoses and coolant and looked in the radiator and it looked like crap.
only 97,000 miles but the coolant looked like light brown water, not the gold, but watered down old *** coolant.

My question is is the factory rad. a good one ? If it is I will just get it rodded and cleaned for alot less than a replacement.

Also, how are the water pumps on these old motors? I have seen several ford impellers rotted away on there gas motors and if Im in there I wonder if I should go on and replace it?

Not sure on the radiators, but as far as the water pump goes, i changed my origional @ 286k and the impeller looked new, the bearing was givin up. That may not be the case on yours with the grody green stuff. When i pulled my water pump and thermostat i was amazed to see just how clean everything was, and its stayed that way so far. Pop the rad cap and looks like brand new coolant, has around 14k on it now.

He is right...as long as you make sure your cooling parts are up to snuff...you will be fine forever...
