Radiator/coolant flush

Doing my 60k mile service and i got some pictures of sediment picked up by my coolant bypass filter...WOW! No wonder why water pumps don't seem to last.
BTW, the filter was on for approx. 6k miles!

How long are your water pumps typically lasting? There's almost 150K on my truck, which I've had for the last 50K. I've never replaced the water pump, and I don't know if the previous owner did either. What are the signs to look for that a water pump is about to go out? Any pumps better to replace it with than just another stock one? I read some time ago about using one from a different IH engine.

My truck has slightly over 100k and I put a water pump on around 75k I think and the mechanic tells me it is leaking again around the pump so I will need another one at some point in the future.

Smile Wp

My 1st WP lasted 50K w/o a coolant filter. I installed the filter when I put a new pump on 6 months ago. Changed the coolant filter yesterday when I changed the Fuel Filter & did an oil chnage.

Glad I haven't thrown my coolant filter away yet. I'm anxious to cut mine open after seeing that pic. I'll let you know what I find. Running a NAPA 4070 filter this time instead of the baldwin I had before.

I know the OTR guys use them and if anybody knows how to get equipment
to last it's those guys.
I couldn't believe the small sand particles stuck in the filter element!
