Good Evening All! i don't know if ya read the last few posts in the Aussie chapter, last year i asked for help in finding family members from across the pond. WELL! out of the blue a Very Nice lady named Maria joined the site to let me know of a commemorative event to honor my grandfather and the crew he died with in WW2. You see, my grandfather, Malcolm John McLeod flew with the 467 Kingsford-Smith crew,5 missions and 463rd bomber squadron, 22 missions. on July 4/5 of 1944 his Avro Lancaster bomber was shot down while on a mission over France. Saint-Leu-D'Esserent there mission was to bomb the limestone caves the Germans were using to store V-1 flying bombs. Anyways... the event will happen in France June 30 2012 I wish i would have found out about all this sooner... i would have liked to attend. Nice thing is I am now in contact with family Members in Australia.
Good Evening Everyone. Wow Bill that is an interesting event to have happen. Too bad you can't attend. But what a neat thing.
Rich, that is interesting part of history. Your grand dad's first name is my middle name.
My Dad's first name was Jerome but the Army in WWII changed his name on his discharge papers switching his first & middle name. Once that happened his name was changed forever. He passed in 1987.
