Glow plug light on Dash

How long should the glow plug light on the dash stay illuminated.

Dont know if my glow plug control module is going out, but when the key is turned on, the light on my dash stays on for about 2 seconds max . What is normal and is this a sign of controller failure.

As usual, all help much appreciated from the experts.

Thanks in advance

Mark

The glow plugs are self-regulating. If the engine oil temperature is above 55°C (131°F), the powertrain control module will bulb-check the WAIT TO START lamp but not energize the glow plug relay.

The glow plug ON time varies from 0-120 seconds depending on battery voltage, engine oil temperature and barometric pressure.

The glow plug control monitor (GPCM) system is designed to find failed glow plugs or failed wiring in the glow plug system.

Note: Wait to start lamp "ON" time (1-10 seconds) is independent from glow plug relay "ON" time.

Simple : If it's hot out the light will go out faster!

On that same note. I have a remote start on my truck and the timer (WAIT TO START) is set at 20 seconds. I live in Austin,Texas so it's not very cold...ever. Is this too short. What if I go somewere were it is cold. I bought the remote start because of cool/cold days so I can be lazy and be in my nice warm house and warm up my truck.
