this is what i got, i just put in a new glow plug control unit, all of it. all it will do is cycle. the light stays on for a milla second and goes right to cycle. as it cycles there is no amp draw on the dash is this a glow plug issue? i am the only guy in 80 degree weather that has to plug in his truck so it will start when it cools off
i got that a second to late, anyway, i will change them all in the morning. whats this mean i put on a new relay on my old controller and the light comes on with no cycle, and no power to the glow plugs right at the wire with the resistor, i put it back to the way it was new relay on new controller, cycle only. but i will change them.
Black wire must have a good electrical ground.
Ignition terminal must have power when the key is ON.
Battery terminal must have battery power at all times.
This picture is an 86 model that has a few extra electrical components, so yours will be a little different.
Passenger side near the dip stick.
You want to find the connector circled in red where the engine harness plugs into the chassis harness.
Notice the large gauge orange wires at the bottom of the connector?
Yours will be either tan or yellow.
Inspect the connector very closely looking for signs of heat damage.
Discolored or deformed melted looking places mean you probably have corrosion in the connector.
Those largest wires in the connector are the ones that carry battery power to the glow plug controller.
Caution, both of the large wires come directly from the battery, so be careful, if you short them out you will have very big sparks or a fire.
Remove both positive battery cables makes it safer to work on.
If you see signs of melting, about all you can do is splice the wires around the connector.
Use a good splice method and insulate them well after the splice, those two wires are carrying 200 amps while the glow plugs are heating.
