For the last 8 months my truck hasn't wanted to start on ocassion [no fuel pump priming]. A sharp rap on the relay/fuse box in the engine compartment usually solves the problem. Not today, though. Repeated rapping and cuss words finally got it started after a half an hour. I've swapped relays but there seems to be some other evil force at play. Today was the first time that the truck did this without having been just shut down. Is the problem there or in the Neutral safty switch so I can't start the truck without the clutch pedal being depressed? If so, then where the heck is it located?
I need my truck.

So, are you saying the fuel pump doesn't run when you turn the key on? If it's not, I'd say that there is a good possibility it went south on you...

if the truck is cranking but not started until you smack the "fuel relay".........that is different then the clutch positioning switch ......if that switch acts up the truck will not crank......I would check the fuses and replaces the relays(cheap). make sure everything looks clean....if the truck does not crank at all until you smack the area......swap out the starter relay...did you swap out the ECU relay?..........you need to let us know if the truck cranks or not when the problem occurs.......comprende?
I replaced the relay today so we'll see how that goes. I suspect that there is corosion in the relay/fuse compartment. If it does it again I'm going to open up its innards since it is a simple latch together setup. A neutral safety switch would stop the truck from cranking, and that isn't my problem. I'll post an update later if it is more than the relay.
If the truck used to start after rapping on the relay box, I think that you are on the right track and I would continue looking there for the problem. I have seen the connections on underside of the relay box get corroded.

I assume you replaced the fuel pump relay?........if it happens again check for spark.........the PCM relay could be bad also.....that would let the truck crank but kill spark and fuel.........check the fuses also...they could have some corrosion on them.......does it ever happen while you are dirivng or just on satrt up?
Update, the relay didn't work so I opened uo the fuse assembly, including popping off the yellow covers and took a dental pick and a pointed mini file to it. Also repeatedly sprayed the contacts with contact cleaner. Now we wait and see if the problem rears its ugly head again.
I hate to pull up a post of mine that is so old, but I like closure. My problem was in the female connectors. I pried them tighter and cured my problem. Now I have to use some force to get the relay on and I have to pry off. It was simply loose and heat caused it to expand and lose contact.
