Softer than that clear stuff from Lowes? No way I'm gonna use that stuff... WAY too hard! That surgical hose looks good. Probably softer than vacuum line I bet. Does that silicone dry up? I know, stupid question... I don't like powder (goes "poof" when you shut the doors) and I don't want any kinda oil that will stay in there. I'm thinking soapy water, but I don't know.

Generally no, not to the extent of powder. There is a carrier that will evaporate and leave a fine film, but shouldn't be "oily" or harm the rubber. We use Honda's brand of silicone spray on door seals, run channels, etc with no harmful effects.
Do like the video posted above shows, remove seal and lay it out flat on the floor, I poured some soapy water thru the seal just for good measure, get your fish tape and push it through the seal. I used a zip tie to hold the tube on the end of my fish tape and dropped all the tubing into a bucket of soapy water and just pulled the tubing through the seal. The doors close firmly, and with the silicone tubing they close without having to slam and really cut out alot of road noise. It is by far one of my favorite low cost mods!!
Adjusting the door latch post so the door closes tighter works to cut down on wind noise. That's what I did on the one door that had a wind noise problem. They are adjustable for a reason.
I did the passenger and driver door on my F-250 and the passenger door closed fine after the tubing. The driver door was very hard to close and I still had a wind leak. I pulled the tubing out and then it closed nicely again. A while later I was driving down the road and happened to put my finger in the corner of the window and the wind noise stopped. The noise was actually coming from the door glass run/channel. I replaced that and the noise stopped. I think the part was around $80 and pretty easy to install.
The new part has foam and is stiffer in that spot than the old one.
