Help confirm glow plug issue
I've had an engine light on for a week or so now. I need some help to just confirm my logic and see if I'm headed in the right direction. If you don't mind, read my case and let me know your thoughts.
FYI... 2002 California 7.3L
1. Check engine code came up for cylinder 5.
2. Looked procedures for checking glow plugs with multimeter... Found out my multimeter is broken. Nuts! Proceeded to change out glow plug #5. I made extra sure that my connections were good upon reassembly.
3. Cleared codes after replacing #5. Still had a #5 glow plug code...
4. Went and bought a new multimeter. Disconnected my valve cover gasket harness and tested the four pins leading to glow plugs.
Results: everything tested out at about .8-1.2 ohm except #5 (approx 8ohm).
Voltage test: all connections from the harness were approx. 11.5v
My conclusion:
I either have a bad valve cover gasket or wiring harness leading to glow plug #5?
I guess I'll need to tear the cover back off and test the internals?
Thoughts, questions, comments?
Thanks for everyone's input.
I doubt this is your issue, but since you're looking at this area and state you have a CA truck...if you have a Glow Plug Control Module, check both of the wiring plugs and the inside of the GPCM as well. They are notorious for going bad. The new plug adapters with wires runs about $130 online, and you have to cut and solder the new plugs on to your original wiring harness. A new GPCM runs about $120 online...and it is the same GPCM as what the 6.0's use.
