Father-in-laws truck 1996 f350 7.3 psd 105,000 miles he is 82 years old so don't bash for lack of maintenance. It is hard to start so I started checking the glow plug system. Relay I will replace it sometimes works sometimes doesn't. I disconnected the connectors at the valve covers and test the outer pins to check GP resistance. only 1 of 8 was close 1.5 ohms 5 show open 2 show high resistance 600meg 1.5 meg. So my question is this a harness issue or the GP's themselves. Or should I just shotgun this and replace all the components gp's harness, valve cover gaskets, relay. And where would be the best place to get the under valve cover harness assembly's. I will only use zd-11 glow plugs. If the harness is bad what do I need to look for when I open her up.
I would say that the glow plugs are the issue, 5 dead ones, 2 might be heating a little and 1 that is working. The under valve cover harness would have burned pins where it connects to the gasket if they are bad. I would just replace the plugs and inspect the harness and go from there. When I had issues, it was with the plugs on the engine side of the gasket.
