hey guys, looking to put together some ideas on a new grille guard for my truck. something i could mount a serious winch and aux lights too. MAYBE a plough( very rare ill do that, but..just in case). (87-91 trucks only please)
That's my home-made bumper. The piece in the bottom in the middle is actually the internal part of a Warn Enforcer winch bumper, the big pipe above that is Oil line piping (probably 6" in diameter, and 7/16 thick I believe). The smaller pipe is 3" roll cage pipe, which is 3/8 thick. The uprights I cut myself
When these pictures were taken it was all tacked together and not painted yet. It's all black now and it looks a lot better.
It also probably weighs 500lbs, but it was mostly scrap material I had laying around with the exception of the biggest pipe which I got from a buddy in exchange for some mufflers that I had laying around.
It might be overkill for whatever it is you are aiming for, but I'd rather have overkill than underkill. It has already stood a test of 1 deer at 60mph since it was put on and it didn't do so much as scratch the paint on it, but that's probably because I built it raked out like a pre-runner bumper so that if I do hit anything it goes under the truck instead of into the hood.
Thanks guys keep em coming.
Gnt22, what i have in mind is something even beefier than yours.
I will be doing alot of nighttime driving in north ontario in a few years and want something that would run through a moose. (moose collisions up north ontario kill almost as many drivers as dui!).
For mine im thinking a blend of a pre runner bumper, forward angled "gate" that covers grille and top of hood, and two fat vertical pushbars on the front. I saw a 90s jacked up dodge eith the most badass cow catcher on the front once, but have yet to find something on the internet that resembes it. That thing was a straight up bulldozer
I'm pretty sure that if you build a bumper pretty much identical to mine, you should be good to go. We build 2 that are almost identical but the other one doesnt have a pipe in the middle, it has C channel. That bumper can take off 8" diameter trees and road signs without denting it.
