Post back the fix. For all the money you spent so far you should invest in some gauges or a couple of scan gauges. Guys here could really tell much better whats happening if we new a little more. Fuel has been my guess to. God bless,
Hey guys. So I just heard back from Swamps. They say it is a pretty bad exhaust leak on the up pipes. This pisses me off no end, because every time I asked prior mechanics about the leak I was told it was minor and not to worry. IF this is the fix, I will let you all know, but I wont be able to tell until I am hauling up hill. Sigh. Still, you all seem so confident in these mechanics that I am hopeful. Thanks, and you are right, I should invest in gauges....when the money is there. I meant install some this year, as I am a dashboard watcher.
Beans is legit... However, I think you may have a combo of problems. Work with Beans if the problem persists and they'll straighten you out. An exhaust leak generally isn't intermittent, that's the reason I think it's a combo of problems. However, you'll probably find some power you didn't know was there now that they're fixing the boost leak.
Agreeing with above post multiple problems ... Fuel restriction sounds like its at play here ...when the fuel pickup was replaced did the tech note the condition of the pickup when found broken? I've seen pickups come out in tiny pieces . I had one 7.3 come trew with busted up pick up so bad it clogged mixing chambers. Customer reported that the truck would lose power and would let it sit, then it would magically have all the power back and slowly die off again .. Truck had almost no noticeable sound difference and no smoke at all, it also cranked up normally too . I ended up changing out number six injector , fuel filter pump was in the way out so that went in as well shower head reinstalled and I sold the customer a prefilter kit I've seen here in the forums from strictly diesel . The kit took care of mixing chamber issue and returns so .... Please keep us updated with progress I'm subscribing so don't forget . Good luck
I'm with everybody on the exhaust leak... but I'm not so sure about the fuel. I know when I replaced my HPOP, I had a whole new truck to dial in. I'm wondering if she's having a sensor issue or a regulator issue that effects Injector Control Pressure. Sea level... hmmm.... I know somebody at sea level that had the MAP and EBP reading really low, like they were at 6000 feet elevation - and this whimped out his truck with zero smoke. Only an AE is going to sort this out, our speculation might be more of a disservice.
I promise to continue to post updates. Haven't heard anything new, although I am way ahead of you Tugly. I am wondering if a big part of my problem is a sensor, but I am thinking more that the leak may be causing faulty readings. I had asked prior mechanics about a boost leak and they ignored me or poopooed the idea. I think it is because I have *****. Really. I will let you all know as things progress.
Somebody on here just posted how the pieces of the foot in the tank were sucked up into the mixing chamber and had the same problem you have. Since you had the dealer drop your tank, it could be a possiblity.
Hey, guys. So I picked up my truck today. Swamps diagnosed it thusly: "Severe manifold to head leak - needs gaskets/ check manifolds for flatness. Up pipes still leaking, cut reweld, reseal. Airbox not sealing correctly - *** (unintelligible)*** air filter install/ clean intake tubes. EBP actuator starting to seep." What was done: "removal of both exhaust manifolds, both up pipes, reinstall new up pipe gaskets, install exhaust manifold gaskets, all new stainless steel hardware." They also fixed an oil leak on my turbo.
Is it fixed? I can't say yet, but it is quieter than it has been in months, I am charging up hills without the trailer, it feels bullish and ready to run, and the rpms and speed make sense. I am confident enough that they fixed it that I asked for and installed one of their bumper stickers. Reed also firmly told me if it wasn't fixed, I was to bring it back and they would make sure it was fixed before I left the state.
Thanks guys. I would never have found this shop on my own. I think I love them. For sure, I will bring my truck to them every year from now on for my yearly overhaul.
