Transmision external filter

Had my truck at the Ford garage this morning for a transmision flush and fluid change. the tech was unable to get the cover off the external filter, he said he put as much presure on it as he could . He said he was afraid he would crack the housing if he used anymore and since they had no parts in stock the truck would be down for a few days. How important is it to get that filter changed? I have just over 60000mi on it. Can I live with it as it is. Thanks Karl

I change mine every 20K and it's black every time even though my fluid always looks and smells great...

Try using an impact to get the filter housing off.

1/2 inch air or electric impact should knock it off. When replacing, lube the O ring and snug down period. The O ring does the sealing not the threads. If it should drip you can then snug it a little more.
