leaf came out!! advice please

So I was driving yesterday and when i hit a pot hole, my rear end got really squirrely. When I get home i find one of my rear leaf springs laying in the street!!

My question is how do I keep this from happening again? I do have a 6" lift on the truck

Thanks

Was it the overload or one from the main pack? Was it broken or 1-piece? Maybe it didn't taste good so your truck spit it out...

I would reassemble with a new center pin and u-bolts.

It was on the main pack. Come to find the center pin sheared off so it was just a matter of time before I wouldve had some serious issues.

Thanks for the tip on new u bolts. Was going to re-use but prob should be safe and replace.

Yep, replace the u-bolts, they are relatively inexpensive and the safe thing to do.

how often do you check the ubolts after the lift was installed? When i added my new front springs i checked them a month later and they were loose again. My cousin mud truck always come loose after beating on it all weekend with a 600HP big block!

Sounds like your cousin needs to use heavier u-bolts. I torqued mine to spec when installed to get the proper amount of stretch and used blue loc-tite, haven't had any issues. Too many people over-tighten u-bolts just hammering them on with an impact wrench.

when he bought the truck, its a 1977 factory K30. It had a 8" lift installed about six years ago that was never driven on the street, the kid was trying to redo the truck and never finished it. When we put the big block in it we started taking it out, one saturday the front pin broke and two leafs fell out. While fixing it i notiched all the ubolts, shackle bolts we either loose or never tigntned from the install six years ago. Im not gonna lie my cousin took a impact gun and just tightned everything on the truck. A few months later he checked everything again and used the impact were everything was a little loose again. it could have been because we tigntned them for the first time and then they stretched a little so when he checked them they needed to be reset i dont know.

I would throw those u-bolts away and buy some larger new ones. They have probably been over-tightened and yielded, so they'll just keep stretching until they break.
