ignition modules. custom, homemade or programmable?
anybody ever do or see cool ways to build your own ignition module? i know msd is an option but it doesnt do what duraspark does(it can but $$$ will be spent)
anybody have a link to cool schematics or anything?
that or can you add extra things to a duraspark? ive heard of add-on cdi boxes but is there a way control timing or other cool stuff?
i think it would be KA to be able to customize and be tunable, especially on the fly!
sorry if this is too geeky for this forum!lol! i just think outside sometimes rather than just about fixing/restoring
sorry but these are "old school" trucks you got what came from the factory simple and reliable i personaly upgrade all my ignitions to a hei unit [based on the gm design with a ford shaft] they work very well 1 wire hookup, faster advanve] i run all my trucks with them 460,400,302
Closest thing I can think of that might interest you is a Megasquirt ignition. Hand built and programmable. I remember building a lot of stuff out of Popular Mechanics and Popular Science magazines back in the 70's. Most info is proprietory on existing stuff. I've looked and never found a internal diagram for a Duraspark box..
back when i was big into the mazda forum those guys were all the time using the megasquirt, which i think would be ideal but when i looked at their site it looked like it was all designed for efi, ill have to look more into that.
it sucks that theres no schematic of a duraspark box to start with
