I just got my rough country shocks in today, they came fully depressed so I extended them all the way out and its like they have no support at all. I can push it back down by simply laying my hand on the top where the treads are ( goes down slowly). So are these junk or am I missin somethin?
I do not have experience with the rough country shocks, but not all shocks will rebound.
The important aspect of the shock is their ability to dampen the suspension movements, and they are typically valved differently for up and down motions. The rough country's are probably valved for each application.
The cheaper shocks I've used, like KYB gas adjust and Monroes will extend, and they can make your vehicle feel sportier by stiffening things up, but they don't last too long.
The Bilstein's I use don't extend too much, and the Koni's I have don't at all. I just bought a set of KYB Monomax shocks for my 03, and it will be interesting to see if they are over pressurized and how they affect the ride.
Another thing I try to do before installing shocks/struts, is cycle them 4-5 times. I have had and heard of bad experiences when this is not done, as you can end up with a mushy ride.
