Throw bearing grinding?
My 92 F250 with a 7.3 and 5spd Standard 4x4.
I notice today that everytime I shift that I get a bit of grinding as I release the clutch at all gears. You can feel it even in the shifter. I tried shifts at different RPMS but it still happens. The only things that seems to help is slowly release the clutch pedal stop near the top of release and slowly release and it may not happen 1/2 the time.
I suspect the throw bearing is maybe grinding against the input shaft everytime the slave cylinder releases it.
So do you agree the bearing maybe gone. If so, my next task is removing the trans to replace it. I never done a 4x4 trans before. So where can a person find instructions or guidance to remove and reinstall besides the the Haynes manual that does not cover enough of this type of work. Is there an online site that I can get this info.?

Only difference with a 4x4 tranny is that it has a transfer case mounted to it. Basically, you have another driveshaft to remove, the linkage for the transfer case, and the transfer case itself. Its just a little more work, not really anything difficult. Some people drop the transmission and transfer case together as one unit. If you have a jack that can handle it thats fine, just harder to maneuver.
The throw out bearing doesn't actually touch the input shaft. It rides on the 'quill', basically a hollow tube over the input shaft. It can hang up on the quill, but the rotating part contacts the pressure plate, the bearing itself doesn't spin on the quill.
