Hello gurus! I seem to be having a problem with my transfer case. It's a BW1345. I've pinpointed the problem to the front output shaft/yoke assembly. When spinning it there is a slight clicking sound. I have removed my front driveshaft before spinning, just to be sure it wasn't the U-Joints. I know it's in the transfer case. The noise is only present in 4wd, or when the front output shaft is rotated.
My main question is this case simple enough to tear apart and just replace the bearing that's gone bad? There doesn't seem to be any side/side forward/backward movement on the yoke, but that doesn't mean it's going to last forever. Im also turning 35" tires with 3.54 gears in the frontend and 3.55's in the rearend.
Does anyone have a schematic of the internals of that transfer case? I'd like to see what I'm getting myself into. I'm pretty competent with my tools, and am willing to purchase new ones if needed. I'd rather not buy another used one, as more problems that I'm not sure of will surely rise to the surface (nature of the beast, ya know!).
I hope I described my problem good enough. If you need anymore information, I'll be checking in on this post hourly just to see if anyone has posted some info for me.
It's nothing major to tear apart and put em back together right. We just everyday simple hand tools. and a T50 socket if i remember right. But while your in that Tcase besure to clean the oil pick-screen and tube. Besure to clean the case well of debree and stuff to cause screen clog later. Check the pump also. These are the main cause of the BW case's to fail.
Will do! So I won't need a press or anything like that to get that bearing on/off? I'm hoping I don't because I dont' thing my wife will like a bearing on the Foreman grill!!!!
We didn't have to have a press for anything on rebuilding the Tcase. But if they where to give ya problems. Just take a socket, Piece of pipe or a wood dowl that'll fit on the bearing surface without touching the Tcase and tap on the piece used with a hammer and they should drive right out.
