I just noticed today that as i was driving the oil pressure would drop during mild acceleration. On the way home i tested it more and realised that it was really when ever the turns were sharp or on hills where the oil might slop around. Does any one have suggestions as to where to start on this one. I read at work for mild acceleration the return ports for the oil, possibly pump, pickup screen and gage.
ya and I needed to do a oil change this weekend any ways it looked full when I checked at work after driving in. It was very consistant about it dropping out. RPM of the engine didnt matter, sharp turns and usually acceleration just afterwords and it would drop. If i let off the gas for a sec it would instantly recover it was about a second or 2 delay between the turn and the drop. the consistancy causes me to doubt the oil gage as the issue, though I am not ruling the gage system out either. things like rocking the van wouldent cause it nor would wind gusts which cause me to doubt loose connections. Also if I change my acceleration pattern to spirts even heavy acceleration wouldent cause it. if i didnt know better its almost like something is floating around either intake or oil drain back that as soon as the sudden pressure and lowered oil level from sloshing is interupted it doesnt get sucked up to the screen or whatever.
Any unusual sounds from the engine? These gauges are just "dummy" lights with needles. Check your oil and put in a new sending unit before you do anything else.
