Dyeing door panels ?

So my upholsterer says that EX door panels & dash will look bad upholstered cus they are so huge. So far I upholstered the airbag cover, glove box, & fuse panel box in black alcantara w red stitching. I wanted to do same w dash & doors but he says no

He said I should dye them black. Anybody ever dyed plastic panels in a car before ? I hope it doesnt smell bad

SEMS used to make an adhesion promoter I used on a car interior plastic with great results. It softens up the plastic and gets it ready for color. The color is a dye and gets into the plastic. I do not remember any foul odors and the color stayed on well.

Check out your local body shop supply, they probably carry it.

Cheers

That thread the other day with the armored Excursion had a link to the website of the company that did the armoring. They also luxed up the interior which included covering the door panels with leather...check out the pictures so you can get an idea of what you can do with your panels.

I wonder how well it would really hold up over time with the abuse of kids and such.

The little grab pocket in the door panel was the original color of the interior plastic.
