Hey,
I was just looking at some amps the other day and I noticed on some of the there was this thing called a "subsonic filter" all I wanted to is what this does.
Thanks.
Oh and also, A friend of mine told me that theres something supposedly that you can hook up to your sub(s) so you can feel the bass instead of hearing it, is this true or was he just pullen my chain.
the subsonic filter gets rid of frequencies that can not be heard by the human ear, around 20Hz. some amps you can adjust where the cut-off point is, some are just preset and you can turn it on or off.
sub sonic filter does exactly what it says, blocks sub sonic frequencys not heard by the human ear and to give a specified range of frequwncys. this is especially in a portee box when the tuning is higher so the driver doesnt play the wrong note and cause damage, although some argue this has nothing to do with anything.
Yeah, what they said =) The subsonic filter is basically a protector for your subs. It keeps them from playing notes SO low, that they could damage themselves.
Its not really necessary unless you are running a HIGH power system, or a serious ported system with a good amount of power.
As far as the device you can hook up to "feel " the bass... There is a product out there called Bass Shakers that do what u described. But honestly, if you build your subwoofer setup correctly, you'll definately FEEL the bass >=)
dont worry about a subsonic filter a) if your running a sealed enclosure, and b) if your running a low tuned ported enclosure(below 30hz is generally ok)
you do need to run a subsonic filter if tuned above that because below your tuning frequency, your subwoofer will start to unload, or play out of control.
ya what he said, good info...forget to mention its not really needed on a sealed box. seems like ya know ya stuff, good to have another knowlegdable person on the site.
