Harrison runs G-R-E-A-T, but in a "no load" condition, just crusing down the highway at 40 - 55, I can feel and sometimes hear a slight flutter through the gas pedal. Fiancee' describes it as a "subsonic resonance"; you can hear the flutter through the headers (which are VERY loud through the Thrush mufflers!!). During the flutter the engine hesitates / stalls cuts-out for a nanosecond but keeps on trucking....the engine doesn't die or anything; I imagine because its got so much power with 7.999 cylnders but it'd sound a lot better with 100% of them firing away and a lot better on fuel efficiency.

Under a load, the beast roars with aplomb....it'll darn near frighten me and anybody around! I'm about finished "breaking in" the engine - last night passed a guy on a two lane road....JEEZ....this thing is a trip --- I could have SWORN the Russians were sending rockets overhead -- he just ROARS and you BETTER hang onto that steering wheel!! Under a load like that, or acceleration from a red light - it runs fine. The 460 has new plugs and wires; if I didn't know better I would think it's some sort of ignition break-down. What do you fellers think?.....I really don't think it's a vaccuum problem - putting a hand over the carb while running does not allow the 460 to speed up; only slows it down.

I had the same damn problem.. then about 2 days later it got worse-namely, it quit running... Check the points if you have a points distributor, and check all the wiring to and from your ignition. Make sure all your plugs are gapped precisely the same.
I ended up toasting the points in my dist... mallory DualPoint. Shaft turned out to be warped (from the factory) so Im not really happy with mallory right now.
Anyhow, best of luck.. and glad to hear it's running!

Proud Owner --

Thanks, dude. It's a pointless distributor (Mallory), so that won't work. I just replaced the plugs and have tried gapping at .036 and .040 to no avail (Autolite #25's and Motorcraft).
I guess it could be the new Accell 8.5 mm plug wires cross firing, huh? I'll change them tommorrow during his 1st oil change. Will install some ARP header studs this week-end to correct a slight tick-tick-tick....

Proud Owner - is your Ford Galaxy a "sleeper" like my truck is? That's what gets me the most is when some hob-**** Huckleberry slides up next to me and I LEAVE him in a cloud of spent fuel-vapor!! People look at my truck and have no IDEA what's inside - the only clue is the huge headers stuffed under the tranny cross-member...

You could say that... people come up to me, and they like... Oh, whats in it, a 390? Um... guess again.... Then I pass them.. and they like... wwooooooooooooooowwwwww.... lol
When I have my hood on, you really cant tell what's in it.. and it doesnt look that fast, aside from the large, fat tires in rear and 5" skinnies up front..until I start it. THen proceed to smoke them. And again.

I have high hopes from this new engine I just put together.. Should be able to get down under 13.9's..I hope.
But I have this nasty nasty NASTY ignition problem. Cannot figure it out, and I've tried just about everything.

Good luck on your truck.. and post back!
Oh, yea.. did you get any of my emails?
