gpr?

new to diesels.the other week it was 28 here and truck was an s.o.b. to start so today after reading posts i tested my gpr.i have constant 12v power.with switch on i hear a audible click and have power to front red wire.but no power out to gp's.so just to confirm no power out to gp's but hearing gpr click means the relay is bad right?
thanks for the help

If there is no power out of the relay on the second large lug when you first turn the key on, the gpr is a goner (if the engine is cold). Try this...with the truck cold, turn the key to the on position. Take a screwdriver or piece of metal and jump the two big lugs on the relay for about a minute or so. Then try to start the truck. If it starts right up, the GPR is toast. All the relay is doing is (when it is working correctly) is completing the connection between the two big lugs.

You can get a GPR-109 from NAPA and it will fit with a little effort, but figure on getting only a few years out of it. You can get a big honkin' Stancor relay and it will be the last one you will likely ever buy.

PS... Remember the Wait to Start light on the dash is in no way connected to the GPR...it is an idiot light. I put a 12V led connected to the GP side of the relay...that way I know when the PCM is demanding current through the relay.

Buy the stancor gpr. It's heavy duty and well made, probably the last one you will need like stated above.

x 3 .. Big honkin' Stancor.. Never looked back !. I went through 2 napa relays in a 1.5 year period.. Junk in my opinion. If you need her quick, Napa will work. Or use the AIH relay sitting right next to it. Or you can use a 3/8 x 3 extension across two large terminals to get it started while you wait for the stancor to come in the mail

The relay can still click and not deliver the voltage to the other side.

Here are a couple of links to testing the Glow Plug system and how the system is designed.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...glowplugs.html

in addition you can swap the AIH relay (just in front of the GPR) and the GPR.

Sounds like your GPR is toast! If you here the click and you do not get voltage, it looks like this!

Look at this schematic I made up. It is a good reference to use on understanding how the system works.

Air Intake Heater.. Don't do squat really. You can just take the wires off that relay and tape them up.. Then use it as you GPR until your stancor comes in.

Or like this. My original at 82K. Too pitted to pass current.
