Probably so he's running a 496 all motor on 116 octane. He paid more for his Merlin block and eagle rotating assembly than I have in my whole truck

I've got IC and water injection, I don't know what else can be done for EGT controll?

I can't get my EGTs over 1300-1400* anymore with my injectors. That's the hottest tune I have and running wide open from 0-130mph. My tow tune hasn't seen over 1000* yet, but I have towed since the new additions. Should be towing a little in the next week or two.

Correct me if I am wrong, Travis, but isn't there something to be gained for towing by going to an injector with bigger nozzles(like yours)? I would think that getting the same amount of (or more) fuel into the cylinder would help the EGT's to be lower than a long slow burn caused by a long slow injection cycle.

I think it would be interesting to see what Glenn's truck would do with a set of II's.

Without going into a big explanation, yes an injector with larger nozzles can be run and can lower EGTs. How much difference it would make with Glenn's setup, I don't know as I'm not a tuner or injector builder. There is definitely something to be gained though. More fuel in the same amount of time equals more power and with the right amount of air it can be kept cool.

And by the same token, the way I understand it the same amount of fuel in a shorter amount of time (if he is pushing his truck hard, which he is) may lower EGT's correct? Which is why some guys prefer Stage 1.5's or something with an 80-100% nozzle correct? My understanding is that an over-sized nozzle can enable the PCM to deliver the fuel in the optimum timing whereas a 160cc Stage I injector when it is running all out can be injecting fuel for longer than is the optimal period for proper combustion and lower EGT's. I am no expert on nozzle and injector sizing, that's just how I understand it.

Exactly. For example. IIRC a 160cc injector with stock nozzles at 2.0ms and 3000psi typically injects 100cc of fuel. I think with an 80% nozzle on the same injector takes only about 1.5-1.6ms to inject that same 100cc of fuel.

Makes sense from a physics standpoint. A quicker injection would mean a slightly longer mixing time prior to and during combustion. A more uniform mixture allows for better heat transfer between the fuel and cylinder walls. Thus, a slight cooling effect and reduction of EGT.

WoW!! After you guys figure out what I need, make a list and it will be done next winter!! LOL

I told my wife that I must be spoiled. We usually go I40 from western az to about 100 east of Albuquerque, nm then head up thru the plains. The way we went this time felt like it was all up hill pulling a 16K parachute north of Flagstaff to the Black Hills!!

Sounds like a stout car for sure Mike. Mine's all motor too, but not quite as good as that. Stock block. Anyway, have fun with the two's, hope your trans lasts till christmas for you!

I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I have been putting a list together of parts I will be installing this upcoming fall. My truck is pretty much bone stock besides gauges intake exhaust chip and a 6.0 IC.

I have had the same issues even pulling relatively light loads 8k in the Colorado mountains. My EGT's are limiting what I can pull. Its hard to get opinions from some 1:who don't tow often., and 2: who do not live in mountainous terrain where its all hills. Any time I take a trip through the mountains or up 70 there will be a couple of dozen cars pulled over with flashers and 90% with out of state plates, heck even the big rigs have serious heat issues pulling up here, altitude and grade affect diesels a lot different than sea level and flat lands.

My question for you is would you have gone with a bigger injector instead of the ones if you could do it again? I'm just worried if I go too big controlling temp when towing will not be manageable.

What route did you go for H20 meth injection? Snow performance is close to 900 bucks!!!!

This fall I'd like to do a set of stage ones, T500 and H20 injection. I have been debating between 1's and 2's... does Diezel Jim make a 1.5? I won't have the funds to do a H2E full turbo and up pipes but that is something that can be done in the spring.

I originally started with wanting to keep the truck fairly stock for longevity and in two months have gone any route except that one. The big difference between some and my reasoning for buying this truck is I solely did so for the purpose of towing, I want the truck to last till I'm dead, but pull what I want it to without issues.

I will keep both my trucks till I die, especially since black boxes are required in all vehicles after 2015

I have a lot of mods but they might not be the 'right' combination. So, over in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...h-sucks-4.html they guys are helping me figure it out. It pulls great but I want it to be 'all it can be'. I know what your talking about, I have pulled that I70 out of Denver, its a killer. Over is the other thread the size of injectors are discussed. I'm not sure at thing point what size would be best.

I went with coolingmist for water injection, about half the price and at the time I bought it the pumps were higher pressure. I only use water and it seems to help, at least 100 degree drop in EGT's.
