All my diesel experience has been with diesels w/ mechanical fuel shutoffs. I just bought a 1990 7.3 and she won't shut down. I've been stalling her in 4th gear, but this seems clumsy and I may be doing clutch damage?
Reading the posts about runaways, I hesitate to replace the IP solonoid not knowing how to set it, and the nearest facility is 70 miles & crooks from previous experience.
Filling the filter w/ diesel kleen & running 30 seconds- letting it sit overnight was in a previous post if it is gummed up (probably burnt up), but worth a try. Can I then run the cleaner through the engine straight or should I drain through the side plate before running?
The only other alternative I can think of is installing a shutoff between the filter & IP.
If anyone will offer a suggestion I will be very happy. Thanks!
have you tried disconnecting the connector on top of the injection pump? and see if it shuts off then?.... and if that don't work then my suggestion would be either try to replace it or replace the ip
Does it stop when you pull the FSS wire off the IP? Make sure it's really a bad solenoid, not a problem with your switch. Diesel Kleen isn't going to affect the operation of your solenoid. Have you done the "click" test to see if you can hear the solenoid opening and closing? 12 v at the FSS wire with the key "on" and 0 v with key "off". Check these things and let us know...
Ah yes, That was the first thing I checked - 12 volts getting through and no voltage when key is shutoff.
I have the engine shop manual, but it has zero info about the IP.
Thanks for the input.
You can run the Diesel Kleen through the engine, no need to drain anything.
Does sound like you need to replace the FSS but there is a very specific proceedure you need to follow. Unfortunately I don`t have it.
You should be able to get a new FSS at mwfi.com and I would think, it would come with fitting instructions.
Say fellows, thanks for making my day. The injection pump manual is everything I need and the diesel kleen info as well.
Yours truly, and good feelings for you all taking the time.

Just a Thought here, the db2 pump was also used on the GM diesels. The FFS is the same. I'm currently running an FFS out of a Buick 5.7 in my 85 6.9.
