Like many owners I want to upgrade my '51 truck with a 5 Star cab type locking latch to my drivers door so I can lock/unlock from the left hand side.
Question is can anyone help me locate one? I'm sure I saw a re-pop one once but for the life of me I can't find it again. I'm happy with either new or old.
Anyone? Please help
There is a little bit more to it than installing a locking latch mech. You need the lock cyl. , lock cyl. collar that is welded to the inside of the door w/ long allen key to hold in the lock cyl.
Best bet is to find a '51 or '52 5 * extra cab left door .All the internals will be there .That is what I did for the stock '52 build .
Thanks firstrider. That's about how as I understand it. I re-built and fitted the right hand side so have a good idea of what I'll need in parts and work to fit a lacking latch to the left side.
So the only parts source will be used is that right? No re-manufactured latches? because I'm sure I once saw a complete left side locking latch for sale.
Please post a reply if you know of anyone making reproduction left side locking type latches for a '51? I'm now thinking nobody does and the ones I recall seeing may have been Chevy.
There are no reproductions of this part. The glass regulators are being reproduced, however. The driver's side locking latch mechanism from an Extra Cab optioned truck can be hard to find, as well as pricey.
I should have the part that you need (5 Star Extra Cab driver's door locking latch). I also have a pair of 5 Star Extra Cab doors and all of the Extra Cab parts to go along with the door, as well as other Extra Cab parts.
