Towing with od on or off
#16
your describing the roads i drive on,and with today's fuel prices,i have no complaints about letting her go back into OD asap down the other side of them hills.you have nothing to fear about letting it shift back and forth like that.that does not fall under the "gear hunt" description and will harm nothing at all.that's how she's supposed to work.
you've let people posting incorrect info on the boards instil fear about letting your auto be an auto.
i would try and get to the closest revised bulletin 186A as you can.paying 0% attention to other suggested TPS settings.
note this line: "Remove original # 186 from your files and replace it with this revised bulletin. # 186A."
they are actually very special.the one in my old mans '08 6.4l SD is incredible!!! auto OD trans have come a long way since the E40D.
far more than a basic od lock out.the computer monitoring and how it works is just amazing really, for extra grunt and braking.you would all love that tow/haul mode on the new trucks.even die hard manual fans would like that stuff.it's impressive.

Yes the new Fords are pretty nice, our '11 does some nice stuff, holds gears longer, downshifts automatically to reduce speed, etc etc. However the 2003 or close to nissan or yota we got as a loaner does nothing but keep it out of OD unless your really haulin ***, even when empty, i suspect our 98 F-150 to be the same way.

Banks Power | Why Add a TransCommand?
i installed a shift kit in my E40D.
also installed a resistor in the EEC line.-search: E40D resistor mod.it comes with the B&M shift kit.not sure what size resistor they used, just enough to help,it's not even close to limp mode pressure or anything like that.
basically it will do the same thing the trans command will do,just all the time, rather than load sensitive.so you have man shifts all the time.empty or loaded and much cheaper.the banks turbo and the E40D is match made in heaven.can't wait to load 'er up next week!(after my EGT gauge install)

Its under the dash. You can see the connetion for it if you look under the master brake cylinder where it goes through the firewall. Its a long rectangle standing on end. Its about 1.5 inches by 3 or 4 inches

interesting.same thing.when in doubt though,google.
Let me google that for you
ideally, there was another valve with the kit,but it goes in the front pump. B&M instructions said to use one or the other, but not both.since i wasn't dropping the trans anytime soon,i opted for the resistor lol.just tricks the solenoid into thinking it's not getting enough juice and the pcm sends a bit more if you will.worth doing.it won't hurt the solenoid any.
it may not do much without a shift kit installed though.try it i guess? really should just get yourself a kit and get 'er done.then she'll be nice and crisp.when i put a decent converter in,i'll put the upgraded valve in the pump and ditch the resistor.
always more to do.it never ends............
