The right puller

I'm about to change a P/S pump on a 2000 4.6 V8 and I know I need a puller to remove the pulley from the old pump shaft. My question is what size puller will I need to do the job? I assume its going to be a standard one but want to be sure I get the right one. I've been caught before in the middle of a job only to find I don't have what I need to complete it. Any help is appreciated.

Its a special puller you can usually borrow from a autoparts store, just check the pulley for paint dots, good techs dot the pulley each time its removed max of two times, two dots, after two times it should be replaced

I have found it easier to pull it with the old pump on the engine and press it on the new pump on the engine after high pressure line is in place

Unfortunately I live in a rural area where the parts stores are at least 20 miles away so I was hoping that a standard puller might do the job. If I understand your answer that's not the case?

The pulley kit comes with the puller and the press set up, I personally never tried a small 3 jaw puller to remove it, or a small half moon puller, I would think it will break the ring on the pully, as far as pressing it, since its not recommended to pound the pully on, theres another reason for the kit
I know fellow mechs that made make shift press set ups with a bolt and washers a socket and a nut , but I never tried it

Thanks for the input. I think I'll try it with a small standard three arm puller and see how it works, I don't have one so its a good excuse to get one. I understand the re-installation of the pulley on the the new shaft using the bolt and washer and I guess it doesn't matter how you get the old one off as long as you don't damage the pulley. I was hoping to use the old one since as far as I know its the original OEM. If all else fails I can make the trek to a local machine shop and have it done there, a hassle but it wouldn't be the first time.
