Steering Pulley removal question

Steering Pulley removal question
Help..What is the procedure for getting the pulley off the shaft ? There is a 3/8" allen wrench recess in the end of the shaft. Replacing the pump cuz of whinning.. Tried the air removal procedure.. no help..

I just checked my service manual and it says that a you'll need a "power steering pump pulley removal tool" to take it off. It also says that you'll need a different special too to reinstall the pulley on the new pump. Both of the tools should be available for rental or loan at most auto parts stores. If you bought the pump from a local store, I'd ask them first. They should let you use them for free since you bought the pump from them.

I've done this plenty of times. Yes, most auto parts stores will loan you a removal/installation kit for this, you might need to leave a refundable deposit. The pulley is a very tight fit on the shaft so don't try it w/o the proper tools. When you install the pulley on the new pump, be sure to align the pulley with the other pulley's.

I forgot to add that I usually get a rebuild kit and overhaul my old pump. I don't trust the "lifetime" warranty's, cause I think the repair shops just replace the bad item and you're left with "x" amount of miles/time on the other parts. Plus, it's cool to see how the pump is made and you'll find there's very little wear and tear on the pump itself. It's usually the bearing or the seals that are bad.

Thanks guys.. i got a puller to remove the pulley.. no problem, came right off.. I am also replacing the high pressure hose.. There is a Ford replacement revised hose available that is suppose to quiet down the noise from the pump.. It has a tuning cable inside, strange... if it works, great.. P/N 1C3Z-3A717-AA. So with a new pump and a new "tuned" hose, I should not have to listen to anymore whin.. i hope.
