Took my F250 6.0 into the dealership to get serviced, oil, tranny flush, etc. and the tech noticed a leak from the hydroboost module. Now I think I can figure out the basic function of this module, in that it has a compressor and appears to have chambers to provide hydrolic pressure to various systems, front and back brakes, and power steering.
The tech obviously didn't look close to where the leak was coming from, as it isn't coming from any part of the module housing but from one of the high pressure lines that comes out of the left side of the module body, as you look at it from the front of the truck. The leak drips down from that fitting onto the module body and onto the stearing column.
So the parts guy that schedules and manages the tech's time said I needed a new $480 Hydroboost and have it installed. I told him to order it, which they did and charged me, but I didn't want to have them install it until I had a chance to look at it myself and ask questions.
I know hydrolic fittings can get damaged, but is it safe for me to attempt to tightent this fitting? I'm sure there are some 'O' rings in there, and that may be where my problem lies, but the location makes it problematic because the reservior for the DOT3 and the engine coolant reservior are in the way. And I mean, completely in the way.
Bottom line, I would rather not spend the money if I don't have to. It has cost me enough already.
Dude i just replaced that hose about a month ago , mine was leaking at power steering pump end . Bought it at advance for 23 and some change , ford wanted 110 for it . There is a swivel fitting at both ends and that is where they leak. It is not that hard to do yourself took me about 2 hours the top part is the easy end. I would not buy a hydro unit if its just the hose. Well i guess you did buy one , wait till they sell you the hose . Sounds like when their done you going to get the hose anyway.
there is a nylon waser that gets streched around the fitting, replace it if it is leaking between the fitting and the unit. if the leak is from the line you need a new line.
Where can you purchase the Nylon washer? I have a leak and the white nylon washer came out when i loosened the fitting is it a certain size that I can pick up at the auto store??
