Old Ugly, Fantastic Idea! I have different thicknesses of metal floating around my garage. I can put a few pieces around the trans in different places as shims in a sense. I will start out thin and go thicker until the clutch disc can spin freely.
Dick, I will file that input shaft a bit just to have peace of mind it is sliding all the way in either direction.
All great ideas, thanks again!
I have another clutch on order, this time from advance. I am going to try and contact the guy I gave my old one too just for some reference too.
Dick, what is the total length of the splined hub?
Here's the story - After I took the above pics I moved a ton of crap to get to a F1 LD 3 spd trans - Being the type that I can be I intended to take sone pics of the clutch disk on the trans input shaft - It has some rust - The disk is now stuck - Taa Daa - Nothing else is going to happen today - I mowed the lawn and helped a neighbor and my back is killing me.
Does the clutch disc hub look the same on both sides of the disc, as far as length go. Mine is a good bit longer on the transmission side, much shorter on the flywheel side. If yours is the same on both sides or close to the same that may be my issue
From the deep recesses of the mind - You have an 11 in clutch (?)
There is a possibility of interference between the pressure plate and the clutch cover/front half of the bellhousing - The 11 in clutch wasn't used in all trucks between 48 and 52 - There is a bell going off that says that there were slight changes to the cover mid streme in production (Portions of the inside of the cover ground near the outside edges?
Oh And has anyone seen my horse I think I may have left it here earlier today
Just talked to Gary at Dennis Carpenter, hell of a guy I must say
Here is what we found:
All measurements are crude and done with tape measure but you get the idea
10" Clutch Disc
Transmission side hub length-7/16"
Flywheel side hub length-1/4"
Overall splined hub length-1.25"
11" Clutch Disc
Transmission side hub length-3/4"
Flywheel side hub length- 1/2"
Overall splined hub length-1.375"
It seems as if I have to run the 10" clutch
My old column shifted 3spd was the 11" clutch but maybe there is more of a spline cut into that trans compared to the floor shifted 3 speed input shaft
Do you guys think the 10" clutch will solve my problems?
P.S. if you remember way back I was having all of that trouble with the clutch linkage not hooking up right to my new trans, this is probably why!
You are right Dick, 11" clutch and I did have interference with the pressure plate rubbing on that adapter piece. I had to grind clearance into that ring, it locked the motor up when I tried to turn it over
I just looked at some old 11" disks that I have.......on the flywheel side, NO PART of the hub sticks up past the friction surface! I think you may have the wrong disk or a poorly made one.
Do you have the old one to compare it to?
I will try to get some pics, measurements today.....
I gave it to a guy that needed it. I had a new one and didnt think to save the old one. I am trying to get ahold of him to see if he still has it so I could comapre it. Thanks!
