I am installing a trailer brake controller and have run the blue wire up front and I know the black and white wires got to the battery. My question is on my 96 f250, what color wire on my truck does the red wire go to? I was told it goes to the brake switch, but there are 2 wires there and I do not have a service manual or wiring schematic to look at. I guess there is a plug in for one under the dash but I have no idea where and I have a universal brake controller=no plug in.

There are two wires at the brake switch, one is the hot input wire and the other is the output wire that goes to the lights. You want the one that goes to the lights, which is usually lightgreen. Go to the store and buy a testlight, it will be a good tool to add to your toobox. Take the testlight and probe one of the wires. You should hook to the one that lights the testlight when the pedal is pushed in.

Ditto. There is universality when wiring controllers, luckily,
