400K on the clock a guy must have went threw a few sets of tires. What are you favorites?
I've had good luck with the Cooper Discoverer ATR. Tried the highway tread and it wore about the same as the ATR (within 5k miles) so I just stick with the ATR. Used to have good luck with the Firestone Steeltex. A bit on the noisy side, but good wear out of them. Michelin lasted about 43k, Pirelli Scorpion from discount tire was utterly pathetic. Tried a couple of other discount brands with little success.
My 99 got totalled with 100,000 miles on it, so yes, you could say I've got a little experience with tires on these model trucks.
Yeah, I thought 330K was alot... been watching you signature get longer, Chris. I remember when it was 345K and I was thinking "Wow, he drives ALOT of miles... hope mine makes it that far!"
I to thought that at almost 300k i had alot of miles. congrats chris how is every thing else holding up?steering / susp / trans / transfer (dont know if 4x4 or not cant see sig from this screen) / axels / ect...heres to 1,000,000 miles

Thanks for the reply! I've always been very curious how the import tires hold up on trucks like the pirelli's. We also have coopers on our trucks right now and they do seem to be doing good. Which michelins did you have that only lasted 43K? We used to get lots of miles out of michelins but they are just much more money.

Well steering still goes left and right depending on which way I turn the wheel. I've had to tighten the steering box I think 3 times now (1/4 turn each time), but the factory gearbox is still holding. Moog problem solver tie-rod ends suck. Didn't even last a year before they started feeling sloppy and popping pretty loud.
Replaced the front springs once, but the Ford replacements didn't seem to hold up as well as the factory ones so I installed a leveling kit to keep the front from sagging. Added airbags to the rear when the back springs started sagging (won't have another truck without airbags now). Transmission is still fine, but I suspect I'm not terribly far away from needing another clutch. The factory one started to slip at 212k miles, so I'm getting close to that range again.

I don't remember for sure, but I want to say LTX? It was whatever model discount tire was pushing at the time after I refused to get another set of pro-rated Pirelli's.
[quote=F350-6;11718247]I'm pretty sure it's a 2 x 4 also.

thanks chris i was wondering my frt end is in need of some attn w/ 280k . ive never touched the box i need to check into that . original tie rods aswell they still seem ok ive kept them greased . i need to check the frt wheel bearings i think im hearing something they are original to. i think im gonna get some frt springs it seems to be saging a little . my trans and transfer are still intact as well as shafts , parking brake still works i havent even looked at it for thirteen years and i use it! every one should if you know what park is you wouldnt hang a 6000 lb truck off of it!
Congrats on hitting 400k! I'm curious to hear what kind of oil that you have been using?
Mostly Rotella 15w-40, but I did try some Valvoline premium blue, Delvac, Delo and sent them all off to blackstone to see how they stacked up in a used oil analysis. They all came back with good readings, so you'll likely get the same results out of any of them.
