83rd oil change
-- 400,000 miles at a conservative, lets say, 15 mpg. That gives 26,667 gallons of diesel the ole gal has drank over the years.
-- Diesel hasnt always been $4, but since she was born, lets say its been an average of $2.90 ? That equates to $77,333 pumped out of your tail pipe.
-- 83 oils changes, 4 gallons for each time, thats 332 gallons of oil to lube her up. At $10/gal avg thats $3,320 in oil.
--Filters, say $10 each, $830 in that time span.
Thats a total of $81,483 of stuff that you need to make it go. Thats a lot of dough just to boogy down the road.

I rolled over 274k myself just yesterday
It's amazing how well these pre-emissions engines run.
Chris It's not how much you've spent over the years, it's how much you saved by choosing the right truck/engine combo in the first place.
A huge congrats to ya!

Congrats! I feel like a teenager.

Accounting for forgotten fuel filters, regular repairs, and the modified mileage, I doubt the number is less than $85K. It's still just one truck instead of two. Factor in mileage for a gasser truck, the purchase price of a new truck, it's life span (250K-300K max), and what we ask out of these. The diesel engine has already payed for itself - and it's gunna keep on givin' the goods.

First of all, congrats on the big 4-0-0-0-0-0. im at 228k now and still truckin. But it got me to thinkin, (not a good thing i know), not knowing exactly how your truck performs, but using some very conservative numbers gives the following:
-- 400,000 miles at a conservative, lets say, 15 mpg. That gives 26,667 gallons of diesel the ole gal has drank over the years.

1. Thats utterly &*$%in ridiculous that it costs that much
2. How could that money have been put to better use if we werent getting raped by the oil companies.
3. Thats enough money to buy another damned nice vehicle and it all went out the tail pipe.
OK. Im sorry for being Debbie Downer, but it just popped into my head. Sometimes i cant help it.

Congrats on the 400K OP!
I think about and add up stuff like fuel consumption, oils, fluids, etc. all the time. One reason is to put in perspective how much a few MPG increase makes an impact over time. Do the same math but with V10 fuel mileage and then ask yourself if that extra $4K more for the diesel option at time of purchase WAS to much?
Now that's a testimony to the 7.3 and you as well for maintenance practices. Me and my truck want to be just like you when we grow up !!
Sitting at 219k....... just a baby in the real truck world. Congrats buddy, I'll rep ya when I can.

I couldnt have said it better myself. Im thankful everyday that i bought the truck that i got when i did. I bought mine when the 6.0 was still the new model, i wanted a truck but i wanted the 7.3, and i am sooooooo glad that i got what i wanted. Picker her up with 55k on the clock, sitting at 228k now. I will keep this truck until it cant go anymore. Hopefully for a long time. I hope to be giving chris a run for his money one day, ive got some catching up to do.
