So it's about that time for my '00 V10 X, I'm at 130,000 miles and looking to do some maintenance.
Looking to do :
1 - Engine Coolant
2 - Power Brake
3 - Power Steering
4 - Transmission (Do I need any Filters and if so what kind is best ?)
Any recommendations ( Fluid type ( DOT, Weight, modifiers etc.. ) I'm looking to pick up all the fluids myself and have a friend who has a chop do the change. Any words of advice ? Should I even do the tranny ? I honestly tow once a year for less than 100 miles if I do at all.
I already did front, rear axles and transfer case about 30,000 miles ago , so I'm not looking at changing those for now.
I would change the coolant. The tranny should be OK unless it it brown or smells burnt, and the filter in there is lifetime. I wouldn't have changed the diffs unless they were contaminated.
Did all my fluids a couple weeks ago. Went back with OEM, Buddy did it at dealership on a saturday! Flushed tranny and did tranny filter, back with mercon 5. Tranny shifts better, and goes into gear quicker from park etc. Definately do the tranny! I also did the coolant, front diff (rear was done a few months ago when the bearings were replaced!) and transfer case. not sure if everything needed to be done but not sure what PO had done so I just wanted the piece of mind. Tranny definately better tho.
