Dash gauges pegging?
working on a 1979 F600 i just got and the temp and oil gauges are pegging and the fuel gauge goes to 1/4, but only when running not just with the key? I replaced the cluster reg and still same result. I thought when it goes bad they would peg just w/ the key? Anyway the gauges were working for the first month. I know the float in the tank is shot, but the tank shouldn't read at all. I was getting them to work by fooling with the reg at first, but it was intermittant.

I would pull the wires off the sending units, oil & temp, on the engine and see if the gauges do the same thing. If they do then the wires are grounded somewhere along the line.
For the gas gauge you can ground the sending wire at the tank/sender and the gauge should top out.

Gauges were working, if grounded they should peg with just the key on.
fuel gauge works by ground, but KNOW the float is gone, so should only read empty, but goes to 1/4 when messing up, when the gauges work it reads empty.
