Adios Cleatus.

One of the most important skills in using any internet forum is being able to recognize who knows their s**t and who's just spreading fertilizer.

It is an unfortunate loss to our brotherhood, but he does need to take care of himself first.

I was going to say that you should stay here, but if you are not going to read this, it wouldn't do any good.

Like the OP has argued “these are my observations and opinions” so after some thought this morning I decided to throw in my two cents on this issue. First, not everyone who comes onto these forums is a professional diesel mechanic and they are looking for help. In every profession you have those that have the knowledge trying to help those that don’t. If answering the same old questions over and over again is a bother then stop giving out information. Sure people may be able to find what they need in extensive searches; however, if everyone found what they needed in forum searches there would not be a need for day-to day interaction and the forum would die.

Second, the statement of “few care about performance from a correctly running, well-tuned vehicle” I have not seen this when I have been on the forums and while there are always individuals who build for specific reasons, the overwhelming majority of people on here are here because they are looking to solve problems to make their truck a correctly running, well-tuned vehicle. I’m not sure what they drive in Montana but I have yet to come across a diesel with an exceptionally loud exhaust or producing insane amounts of black smoke with the “sole purpose of pissing off other motorists”. Many have gone with a muffler delete trying to improve airflow but I don’t think the mod would be to **** of everyone intentionally.

Lastly, the statement of “it's important to remember that we must treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated” is rather comical because many on here, like myself, are not the end all in diesel information and repair and everyone starts out the same way in regards to knowledge in that we don’t know jack until we learn. So when people utilize “incorrect jargon” or they are in need of routine help that they are not as familiar with that is referred to as “the same old garbage concerns” in the OP, a routine problem for some may be a disastrous issue for others. I have been a reader of this forum for years before I finally joined and I have learned a lot of information that has helped me improve my truck but I got here by asking the same “basic” questions that others have asked before me and will continue to ask as long as the 7.3 remains in existence.

Agreed but sad to hear the internet got the best of you Cody.

So many people these days think they are FREAKING GENIUSES because they can use google. A lot of posters are no different. Like Marv said, after a while you can tell who knows their ***** and who is just full of it.

Just another reason we stay away from the social networking sites. Besides the fact they are almost completely voyeuristic.

Before there were internet forums, youtube and facebook there was television, and before that there was radio, and before that the telegraph, and so on, all the way back to the invention of paper. With each great advancement in technology comes the promise of information shared for the greater good. And with each advancement also come the snake oil salesmen, special TV offers, telephone solicitors, email spam, and so forth.

Wading through the internet chaff of misinformed posters while searching for a few golden grains of unbiased information can get tiring, and I'm sure that it's best to walk away from sometimes. It's sad, however, when that happens to someone who cares passionately about the subject, because without their rational, even-tempered contributions the relative noise of the smoke blowers and fertilizer spreaders becomes all the louder.

Some of these posts on here are all over the place....
Is this a Brotherhood or is the 'boyz-in-the-hood'?
Cody has a lot of pride issues and we should been able to tell that he has been getting burned out by some of his posts. I believe that some of his posts have been very short and terse to some who thought that they may be helping someone. We are all wet behind the ears on many levels. Cody is on the top level when it comes to these trucks... no question about that what so ever. And when he speaks it is a sign that he has most likely been there and done that...... Not many have gone so far and stayed so long in what he has done.

I am one of those dumb, dumb people who search through the net to find information. And 'if' I (and many others) don't.... what is one of the statements that is said so much.... "Look It Up In The Search Engine".

Many come here to 'get therapy' by sitting in a support group of like minded addicts.

If this place is a frustration to Cody by what he sees, leaving is only one answer to alleviate this. Another is to stay and work through it. 'Members' come and go for many reasons.

Ann Landers,
was asked one time, "Why are my keys in the last place that I looK?" Her answer was... "Because you stopped looking."

None of us have found the keys to all of the answers...and many of us have not stopped looking. Cody may think that he has all the keys that he needs. I would be lying to myself to ever think that I could ever stop learning and searching and looking.

It is a sad day.

Blessings to you Cody in your rest.

You have hit the nail squarely on the head SARDiverDan! I could not have said it better than you just did.

I hate to see anyone go on this forum who has contributed as much as Cody. If this forum has become a troubling experience for Cody, then he would be making a wise decision to step away.

I agree with diverdan and les!!
Now I am one of those that searches and if I din find it right away I just ask. It is due to my lack of patients. If you don't want to help...don't get on the forum. I know he knows his stuff but it's no good if he gets pissed and frustrates someone with less knowledge.

I blame Al Gore.

I can appreciate the frustration, it's one of the reasons I left another prominent diesel site. While I learned a lot, this site has expanded my knowledge greatly. I have a long way to go still. Sad to see you leave, but sometimes the missionary has to leave the mission field.
