So, I replaced the power steering hose that blew yesterday....it was the one the runs from the p/s pump to the hydroboost. Everything went very smoothly.....BTW the Ford dealer here wanted close to $130.00 +12% taxes for that friggin hose so i sourced it at Lodco for $40.00......they don't call 'em "stealerships" for nothing!
Anyway, get 'er all screwed together, top up the p/s with Mercon V p/s fluid and my pump now makes a whining sound, both when I turn the wheel as well as when I apply the brakes?
It was whining yesterday after the hose blew which I attributed to fluid loss, however, with everything all topped up it is still whining.
Is there a bleeding procedure I need to do or anything like that? Any suggestions?
keep checking the fluid as the air works its way out . if the noise doesnt go away soon you might of got some pump damage from lack of fluid when hose blew.
To bleed the air out you need to jack up the front and turn the wheels stop to stop a bunch of times (don't hold it at the stops though), and also push the brake pedal up and down. My pump had a whine when I bought the truck 3 years ago but after doing the flush and refilling with Mobil 1 synthetic it has been quiet ever since. I flushed it again last month after installing my Red Head steering gear.
Its possible that you just have air in the system. Work the steering wheel back and forth slowly, and also the pedal. This should eventually work out the air. A flush isnt a bad idea either. Dont hold the steering wheel at full lock for more than 3 seconds, as this can damage the pump.
Alan, I tried to rep you.. but you know how it is.
