I have an 86 F150 2wd, 300 4.9, manual transmission. I need brake lines for it. I looked in LMC Truck, but the don't have a brake line lot for the short bed 2wd. Would the short bed 4x4 lines fit right? Or maybe the bronco lines? Also babyn tips on what I should consider replacing or rebuilding since the truck has been sitting for 8 years would be greatly appreciated. This truck only has 86,000 miles on it and I'm the third owner. The first two were my grandma (who bought it brand new) and my daddy. Thank you for your time.
I don't have any particular source on pre-bent brake lines off the top of my head. I do know for a fact that you can in fact buy just straight, un-bent brake line from the auto parts stores and you can then bend it and flare it yourself. This will require a flare tool, and brake line is flexible enough that you can bend it yourself in slow, gradual bends without any tools and worry of kinking/putting a hole in the line. I think some brake line comes with flares on it already, not sure though.
Hopefully some of the more knowledgeable members will chime in here.
I wouldn't think the brake lines for the rear would be different on the 4x4's. Only the front brake lines should be different. Again, hopefully someone else can confirm.
Yeah they do come with flares on em. Just like 1983F1503004x4 said, you can buy them yourself and bend them taking the precautions he said. If your new to bending brake line like me, buy some extra lol. I ending up breaking a couple i think. It has been about 5 years or so. But I did get the job done and I thought it looked good and the lines didnt leak. However I was only replacing the lines from the proportioning valve, to the front disks. It was on my 84 2wd, and man was it rusty. So you may want to buy a couple extra peices. Only reason i say is because I had too and you probably wont need too!
And as far as the truck sitting 8 years, it may be a good idea to clean the gas tank and carb. Any rust in that tank, that may be present from all the years it was sitting, will make its way into your carb. I know mine was rusted (2wd) and it sat for about 5 years. The good thing is, your tank may be light in weight if empty as mine was. But mine was an 84 f250.
Here is some sites I have bookmarked and you may want to too. I know both of my 84 f250s with 4.9s has computers. These sites came from this forum from other posters.
