How important is dielectric grease on plug wires? I seen a recent post stateing "Don't forget the dielectric" and wondered if I should start using it. I have a major intake backfire problem that I can't seem to figure out and need all of the help that i can get.
Dieletric grease helps make the connections water proof and helps in removing the wires later on. I use it on all my wires. As for your intake backfire. check the routing on your wires any two cylinders on the same bank that fire consecititivly need to be separated and the should not cross each other. Also when was cap, rtr, etc changed?
could be carbon tracking or a crack.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the advise gasman. I used the grease and routed the wires the same as they were, because I had re-routed them several months ago when I learned of the cross firing problem. Rotor and cap was changed last year so I don't suspect that. I am wanting to change out the throttle position sensor but haven't had the time. I guess it will take removing it to see which kind it is. The popping seems to be most prevalent while under a low vacuum condition such as starting from a stop, low rpm pulls. Any suggestions?
Backfire through the intake is usally a sign of a lean mixture. You might give all the intake gasket surfaces a spray with WD40 or carb cleaner with the truck running. Listen for a change of idle. If you get one there a leak. Spray your vac hoses also especialy check pvc hose on the back of the plenum. For giggles open your hood at night in a dark area and see if you have "Star Wars" When was you O2 changed last?
