1st Regen

This weekend I traded my 08 6.4 for 012 6.7. I could almost predict when a regen would happen on the 6.4 and kept a log of it. Today at 146 miles on the truck I had my first regen - Cleaning Exhaust Filter. Is this a normal interval or a little early? No problems and I drove long enough to let it complete based on MPG. I wish I could cycle through the messages so I can determine how long it actually takes. Gotta go so I can get back to driving it.

1st Regen

I traded my 08 6.4 in for a 012 6.7 f350 srw cc. I kept a log of MPG and regens on the 6.4. Today wth 146 miles on the truck it goes into regen - Cleaning Exhaust Filter. I know a regen is going to happen but did not expect it this soon. This is a shorter interval than my 6.4. Can I expect 150 mile intervals or is it because it is new? BTW - I do baby it for MPG. The LOM has been saying 18.5 mpg until the regen - it went to 13.5 and was at 16 when I shut it down.

I see a regen at about 200 miles when the truck is unloaded. When I have a heavy trailer...the truck will often only passive regen and you'll never see the active regeneration come up (my 6.4 never seemed to passive regen).

I just towed an 8,000lb car trailer plus another 1500 lbs of gear in the truck from Dayton, OH to San Antonio, TX with only 1 active regen in Arkansas.

Unloaded....every 200 miles.

I'm averaging just over 200mi between regens (unloaded). I have the edge insight cts and you can monitor your average regen distance.

I havent seen a regen in 2500 mi.. Not that it did not happen, I watch the gages like a hawk (used to own a overheating chevy) but my truck is worked hard. Passive regens seem to take care of it for me. I only watch gas milage when the wife is with me b/c its nice to see my one ton get better milage than her toyota!! And shes pregnet keeeping an eye on my right foot!

Seems kind of early to me. I've got 23k on mine and I get a regen somewhere about every 500 miles or so.

Hi SandR, I just merged these two threads because they are both on the same topic.

Funny thing happened today, I posted yesterday that I havent had a regen in around 2500 mi. Got one today. Interesting how you think about it and it happens.

Me too about 200-250 between unloaded regens.

I was curious to see what others have - just thought the first regen was really soon. Have 1 more question: How important is it to get to 500 miles before towing? I will likely get to about 400 before towing this weekend pulling the 5er. Dealer said give it 100 miles and have at it. Thanks

Do search and read some of the old post on Regens. It's not a big deal on these trucks. Other than the 2 second message and a few minutes of worse fuel mileage, You will probably never notice one.

I've had regens at 100 mile interval and I've driven more than 1000 miles with no regen. If you install an aftermarket monitor like the Edge CTS you can monitor your Soot % and see when your truck triggers a regen.

The 6.7L has what I like to call Regen 2. It is a second generation of DPF. The 6.7 is much more efficient at Passive Regen than previous DPF. ( any time your exhaust gases passing thru the DPF are hotter than 570°) it will burn off soot with out dumping excess fuel.

If you interupt an active regen., The truck just starts over at that point and will retrigger a regen when the soot % reaches the trigger point. So instead of going 200 miles to the next active regen, The trigger point might come in 75 miles.
