The first tank I checked was at 1300 miles, and I drove alot of stop and go, pulled the trailer for the first time, and then the super slab to work. I got 11.65 mpg. The next tank at 1560 miles, back and forth to work on that same super slab, 14.21 mpg. If this keeps up I'll be very happy. One or two more mpg would be heaven. F-250 Super Cab---V-10--3.73---automatic. WHAT A TRUCK
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Aug-02 AT 11:20 PM (EST)] You don't meen 1500 miles per tank full do you? :-X23 The most I ever got was 444 kms (275 miles)and the tank was almost dry!
Wow, that's pretty bad MPG Gorstep. Although mine is just SRW, it is a 4x4 and I get about 400 miles (not Km) on a tank. And I sure don't drive it "easy".
I don't know. It works out to an even 10 mpg. I haul my truck camper, 897 kgs (1960 lbs) plus stuff for two weeks for four, water, propane so closer to 3000lbs and 8'4" wide, 99.9% of the time and usually run around 60 to 70 mph(75 if I can). Lots of mountainous driving, passing uphill etc. etc. 10's better than 9 I was getting with my 460 and this truck is way more fun to drive. My tank holds 140l or 30 imp gallons.
What may be confusing things here is the different tank sizes. My long bed has a 38 gallon tank, a short bed only has a 29 gallon tank.
While we are on the mileage topic, I was wondering... now that the temp here in the midwest has cooled down into the 80's, do you get better mileage with the windows down and the A/C off or with the windows up (less drag) and the A/C on? Maybe one of you guys with the handy little computer thingy could do an experiment or something.
Mines a long box and holds 130 l, 28 imp gallons or 32 US gallons!
Just figured my milage out for my holiday (1800 miles of moutainous highway drivin) and got a solid 10 mpg average little under 9 was worst and almost 11 best. I seldom (almost never) use OD and do my best to get were I'm going in a timely fashion, race mini brains(aka vans) up the passing lane and try to be out front of the pack as much as possible.
I guess if I used the smaller gallon to do my calculations my milage would be some what worse. Its kinda like the government trying to balance the books, You use whatever numbers look best.

Your mileage almost reflects mine exactly. Mines a 4x4 and broken in with 18K miles. Is yours 2wd? It will improve mpg after 5000 miles of break-in time.
My truck is an 02 -- Super Cab---8ft bed---V10---3.73 L/S---XLT---and the other usual goodies, EXCEPT----It also has a Leer---122 camper shell. It is the big wedge shaped shell. I pull a 22ft---8 1/2ftwide cargo trailer with L/Q. That camper shell pushes the air right over the trailer. [I hope so. I have looked and looked at that air lift and it looks perfect.] We will know this coming week-end. We are pulling to the motorcycle rally in Lawton OK. We do a little vending at events like this. I will report on the MPG and IF the air lift is PERFECT. The trailer weighs about 9K with the Harley and vending supplies. WHAT A TRUCK
I've been tracking mine since I got it with 6K miles. I now have 30K. You can see the New England temperature swings in the data. I get a solid 12 mpg in the Summer with the AC on and 11 in the coldest part of winter. It took a good 10K miles to wear-in.
Well, I've got one of those computer thingys and on flat level (FL duh!) roads I get the following readings:
60mph - 23mpg
65mph - 22mpg
70mph - 21mpg
and...
50mph - 28mpg
These are all unloaded with just the A.R.E. topper and of course with the AC cranking. Mileage is 3,300 miles.
During normal driving back and forth to work which is about 6 miles highway and 7 miles stop-and-go I am getting 19mpg.
When towing a 5,000# trailer: (ac cranking/1,500 miles on the truck)
60mph - 13mpg
65mph - 11.5mpg
70mph - 10.5mpg
Hopefully, the towing fuel economy will increase after the PSD is broken in.
Needless to say that the fuel economy is far better than my '00 expy/4x4/5.4, which was lucky to see 13mpg around town and 17mpg on the highway.
My numbers are just a bit lower unloaded. By about 1 mpg at all speeds. Your towing figures are a lot lower than mine though. I get about 15-16mpg at 70mph with a 3500lb trailer. Does the extra 1500lb really make that much difference?
