I have a 99 f-150 with the 5.4 triton. I have the tank lowered and trying to get the two lines of the top of the fuel pump off but I cant. Has anyone had to do this as this is bout to drive me crazy. Please help anyone that experience with this.
It is the same connector to the fuel filter. It has a fork like object hooked into the connector that is holding the line in I guess. I have spent about 2 hours or more trying to get the dang fuel pump disconnected from that line. At this point I think I have already ruined 1 of the two lines by pulling the fork like object completely off only to find I still cant get the line to pull out.
If you have the plastic fork off, you need to have a
gas line removal tool" which is a small round split tube that pushes into the end of the plastic fitting and relieves the jaw teeth that are grabbing the tube. after you instert the tool, you pull the plastic line off the steel tube. I have had to grab the steel tube with a pair of pliers, just 1/8 inch from the plastic line. THen push a screw driver between the pliers and plastic coupler, twist the screw driver and it will pry the fitting off the tube. It has an o-ring seal inside.
If it doesn't ( and I believe it doesn't ) have the plastic holders that everyone is talking about, they make a 5/16 and 3/8 disconnect tool that goes to the inside of the end hose to release it
well I finally figured this out after alot of headache and cussing. Bought the plastic tool to remove the line. Of course I couldnt get it to work and was told that it might not anyway. Finally just got the screwdriver and pushed the teeth that were holding it in down and pulled the line off. Feel pretty stupid now that it took that long to figure this out, but when you have never seen this and have no idea whats holding the male end of the line in the female end because you cant see the teeth or clips holding it makes it difficult. pulled the second line off in about 2 minutes. Got the fuel pump back in and had a pretty hard time getting the tank back up where it should be by myself and attaching it all back up but at least it is done and running great.
WTG. Glad you got it up and running. I know that the plastic ones are hard to use but they do work. I have an aluminum set that works great but at least you found out that it wasn't plastic clips that hold it together.
